Searching Rainbos, Catching Dreams: A Creative Arts Workshop for Exceptional Children


In line with Baguio’s Centenary, Founder & Medical Director Dr. Francis Xavier Dimalanta of A Child’s DREAM Foundation, Inc., Baguio’s first pediatric therapy center for special children, in cooperation with the University of the Philippines Baguio’s Department of Communications Head Faye Abalos will conduct the 1st Creative Arts Workshop for Exceptional Children in Baguio City in May. Special children, as well as their friends and siblings are invited to SEARCHING RAINBOWS…CATCHING DREAMS : A Creative Arts Workshop for Exceptional Children

May 4 – 8; 9-10am Arts and Crafts for Exceptional Children with Ms. Pink Melegrito

May 11-15; 9-10am Storytelling for Exceptional Children with Mr. Arjay Arellano

May 18-22; 10-11am Dance and Movement wth Mr. AmerAmor

May 25-29; 1-2pm Kiddie Broadcasting with Mr. Jensen Garcia

May 19, 21, 26, 28, 2-4pm Cooking & Baking with Ms. Ayesha Arce

May 4 – May 8, 2009 | 9:00-10:00 a.m.

Arts and Crafts for Exceptional Children

Arts and crafts will enhance and develop skills on visualization, perception and process of recreation.

  1. Develop the senses

  2. Improve visual and spatial skills

  3. Foster intrapersonal skills

  4. Enhance motor skills

May 11-May 15, 2009 | 9:00-10:00 a.m.

Storytelling for Exceptional Children

Children will be taught how to write or express their experiences through storytelling. Strategies on writing, expressing one’s own experiences will capture the child’s imagination and enhance skills on performing their own stories for others.

  1. Advance linguistic abilities

  2. Cultivate imagination

  3. Increase capacity to interact with others

May 18 – May 22, 2009 | 10:00-11:00 a.m.

Mime, Dance and Movement

Utilizing the body as a form of expression will teach skills on self-control, enhance kinesthetic learning and provide strategies for relaxation

  1. Develop Kinesthetic skills

  2. Progress Artistic and emotional skills

  3. Follow rhythm and patterns of movement

  4. Improve Control and Inhibition

  5. Build Self-discipline in movement

Kiddie Broadcasting

The use of mediated forms of communication will develop skills on observation, inquisitiveness and verbal forms of communication

  1. Develop linguistic abilities

  2. Explore mediated forms of communication as a form of expression

  3. Improve interpersonal and social skills
