Developmental Assessments

Developmental assessment, is a process designed to deepen understanding of a child’s competencies and resources, and of the caregiving and learning environments most likely to help a child make fullest use of his or her developmental potential (Greenspan & Meisels, 1996).

Medical Assessments

Medical assessments on the other hand, are intended to provide an evaluation of the condition based on the parent’s and children’s description of the symptoms and information from tests, physical examinations, and medical history.

These refer to the ongoing procedures used by appropriate qualified personnel throughout the period of a child’s eligibility to identify:

(i) The child’s unique strengths and needs and the services appropriate to meet those needs; and

(ii) The resources, priorities, and concerns of the family and the supports and services necessary to enhance the family’s capacity to meet the developmental needs of their child
